Hi Friend,
Tomorrow I will drive east toward Borrego Springs, into the wide austerity of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, where the desert is once again in conversation with our latest rain storms. When the Southern California desert flowers, it does so with true authority. What appears barren for most of the year suddenly reveals a hidden treasury—dunes stitched with evening primrose (Oenothera deltoides), washes illuminated by desert sand verbena (Abronia villosa), ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) tipped in flame, and hillsides bright with desert sunflower (Geraea canescens). The blooms are ecological proclamations to me—articulations of the generative intelligence inherent within the living systems of the Earth, and therefore mirrored within each of us. Seeds that have waited in measured dormancy respond to precise atmospheric conditions, translating moisture and light into color. The land demonstrates that restraint and abundance are not opposites but phases within a larger intelligence.
I hope you are able find the same peace and nurturing as I do by spending time in nature.
