Today marks the winter solstice—the moment Earth’s Northern Hemisphere reaches its maximum 23.5-degree tilt away from the sun, giving us the shortest day and longest night of the year. Tomorrow the light begins its return. Your suprachiasmatic nucleus—a cluster of 20,000 neurons behind your eyes—is tracking this shift right now, regulating melatonin production, cortisol release, and every circadian rhythm in your body. Ancient peoples at sites like Newgrange and Göbekli Tepe engineered structures to capture this exact astronomical moment thousands of years before modern science could explain why our nervous systems respond so profoundly to maximum darkness exposure. The turn is already happening. Enjoy the longest night, and welcome the light’s return. Enjoy, Dennis
