Therapeutics & The Shape of a Life Well-Lived

Hi Friend,

I’ve been fortunate in having a good set of healthy practices that have assisted me throughout my life. Though they have most certainly changed as I have grown older, they have always been there for me and I am thankful for that.

I’ve added many more to my initial foundation of course, to counter balance some of my crazy decisions.

Hey, crazy decisions make great stories if you survive.
Just keepin it real.

Some people are not so fortunate. If you have read my last article called: A Therapeutic Journey you will see that there are many different ways to awaken to the journey.

Therapeutics is often thought of as a way to fix what’s broken — but the deeper truth is that therapeutics, practiced with intelligence and care, becomes a way of living.

We are porous beings. Every hour of the day, we absorb more than we realize — sights, sounds, conversations, digital fragments, unspoken tensions. The accumulation is constant. Without ways to release it, which usually takes place when we sleep, the mind can become cluttered, restless, even brittle.

When practiced well, these modalities support us in covert ways — they may help us shed the outer armor we wear in public, the protective shell that hides so much of who we truly are, so that it doesn’t get pushed down into the body.

These tools are rarely found by accident; most of us need to go through a lot of different disciplines, practices to find the sequence that fits us at this moment in time.

Yes, breath work is very good & powerful but:

Breath work should not be guess work.

You hopefully will not find out the hard way that you need to be fine tuning your practice regularly. Be open to adjusting your needs as you see fit.
Adjust them to who you really are. Don’t fall prey to listening to a voice that is not you & then cultivating practices that don’t truly represent the real you.

Fearless introspective practices are key and extremely scary for most of us!
Meditation, learning to consciously move from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic is one…

Which ones are you practicing?
Write them down if you cannot call them up by memory immediately.

The Lessons:
– Know your practices
– Fearless introspective practices are key
– Have a variety of different practices to choose from, but always have a main foundational practice. I call this my absolute.

Hopefully, I will see you in class.
So we can practice together.

Things I’ve Learned

“Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.”

One of the techniques that I use to inspire a growth mindset is to ask myself difficult questions on a regular basis. Here are 6, 2 that I use daily and 3 random ones + a bonus –

  1. What do I need to let go of—emotionally, mentally, or physically—to move forward? ( I use this one daily )

  2. What legacy do I want to leave behind, and am I working toward it? ( I use this daily for the last 4 years – when I turned 60 I realized I had something that was worth leaving behind )

  3. Which of my current values would be different if I were raised by different parents?

  4. Is this thing I’m worried about actually a problem, or am I looking for problems to worry about because they make me feel in control?

  5. Is there something in my life I think I’m “passionate” about or “focused” on but I’m actually just addicted to it?

  6. Do I spend more time defending what I already know instead of trying to learn something new?

  7. *Are there people in my life who I consider kind and compassionate but they’re actually just too shy to tell me hard truths?

⚡The Hard Wired

The Hard Wired is a term I use to represent people (authors, thought leaders…), subjects, places etc. that I tap into on a regular basis and most likely will go to see in person or already have…

The Series I am obsessed with… The Sandman.

The Sandman is one of the most creative and engaging TV Series I’ve seen in quite a long time.

It mixes fantasy, mythology, and real human stories in a way that’s totally unique. Yes, I am now Dennis Dean de Dream. He rules over the world of dreams, and the adventures he goes on pull you into strange, beautiful, and sometimes creepy places. It’s full of unexpected twists, memorable characters, and moments that really make you think.

Even if you’re not usually into fantasy, this one is worth checking out—it’s just that good. It’s on Netflix
